Omologato is een van de weinige moderne horlogebedrijven die het erfgoed van horlogemakerij echt inkapselt. De meeste merken proberen iedereen aan te spreken, maar bij Omologato draait het allemaal om het combineren van motorsport en horloges.
Dit merk is een geesteskind van Shami Kalra, een motorsportliefhebber in hart en nieren. Shami was eerder een corporate designer en koos Omologato als voertuig om zijn liefde voor motorsport te uiten.
Als we op hun website kijken, vinden we categorieën zoals James Hunt, Maranello, Monza, Road &Racing, Europeans en Americas. Momenteel gebruiken al hun horloges een quartz uurwerk, maar binnenkort lanceren ze hun automatische line-up, DICORSA. Mijn favoriet is hun Weissach-horloge dat een eerbetoon is aan de autosportgeschiedenis van Porsche.

Dit horloge vinkt alle juiste vakjes aan. Komt van een merk met een rijke horlogegeschiedenis, het is een automatische chronograaf die ook 200 meter waterbestendig is.
Tissot PRC200 sports line collectie heeft een verscheidenheid aan horloges voor een andere smaak. Wil je het met een leren riem? je hebt het, wil je het in een rubberen band? Je hebt het, wil het aan een armband, ja, ze hebben het. Je zult niet veel problemen hebben om er een te kiezen, of je nu van een sportief of echt klassiek horloge houdt.

Seiko is het merk dat in de jaren 70 het eerste Quartz horloge introduceerde. Seiko SPC237P1 is een quartz chronograaf. Het heeft een vleugje oranje op een zwarte en zilveren wijzerplaat/kast. In tegenstelling tot de meeste chronografen, wordt deze ook geleverd met een datumvenster op 12 uur.

Burger Brysen komt uit de Eco-Drive-reeks. Hoewel de website van Citizen het niet vermeldt, heeft de ontwerper van dit horloge zich echt laten inspireren door de autosport.

De Edifice-reeks is een van de best verkochte Casio-horlogecollecties. Deze line-up omvat de nieuwste technologie en inspiratie voor autosportontwerp. Ze zijn allemaal chronograaf met quartz-aangedreven, maar er is een standaard, zonne-energie en smartphone link bereik.
Mijn favoriet is absoluut de limited edition Honda Racing en Scuderia Toro Rosso-reeks. Mijn enige klacht over Casio Edifice is de grootte van de behuizing. Al hun modellen zijn behoorlijk dik, dus je zult er dol op zijn of er een hekel aan hebben.

Seiko Recraft-reeks is een retro-moderne line-up die is geïnspireerd op de jaren 70. De SSC667 en SSC669 zijn precies dat, een authentieke chronograaf uit de jaren 70. Het is een zeldzaamheid dat dit horloge af fabriek op een NAVO-band komt.
Het uurwerk is een quartz solar chronograaf. Maar een interessant ding om op te merken is dat de secondewijzer eigenlijk veegt als een automatisch horloge in plaats van te tikken.

Net als Omalogato is het merk Autodromo ook toegewijd aan de liefde voor autorijden. Het merk Autodromo is opgericht door Bradley Prince, die ook een industriële ontwerpachtergrond heeft.
De Ford GT-chronograaf van Autodromo is werkelijk spectaculair. En als je iets meer ontspannen wilt, kijk dan eens naar het Autodromo Stradale-horloge dat is geïnspireerd op dashboardinstrumenten van Italiaanse sportberlinetta's van eind jaren vijftig en begin jaren zestig.
De prijs van deze horloges is hoger dan die van Omalogato, maar ze bieden wel automatisch uurwerk en saffierglas.

Ben je een Moto-GP-fan? Dan is Tissot T-Race Moto GP het perfecte horloge voor jou. Het ontwerp van het horloge is vrij radicaal en het is zo sportief als maar kan. Zelfs de verpakking van dit horloge is radicaal. Het wordt geleverd in een doos die eruitziet als een helm. De meeste modellen zijn in beperkte oplage (4999 totale eenheden). If you really want an automatic movement, then you’re only left with one option in the T-Race lineup.

Certina is a lesser know Swiss brand that’s even older than Rolex. It was founded in 1888 by the brothers Adolf and Alfred Kurth. Certina’s latest Sports collection has watches that embodies what chronograph should be all about.The watches in this collection has a different range of formality to it. You can have it subtle or have it in loud yellow colour. Most of the models use Quartz movement but we do get two automatic options.

Victorinox is a Swiss brand that originated in 1884 and quickly became expert in knife making, especially pocket knives. They transfer this metallurgical skill to watchmaking by manufacturing tough, high quality watches.
It’s available in 5 different styles but I really love the grey colour case with a rubber strap. It’s powered by a Quartz movement and comes in 44mm case size.
Established in 1892, Hamilton is also a purebred watch brand whose roots lies in USA. Hamilton made its name by supplying timepieces to US railroad when crucial infrastructure was getting built.
The Pan Europ line is a reiteration of the 70s Pan-Europ. Its 42mm case size is just about right to cater to a larger audience. Hamilton Pan-Europ uses H 30 automatic movement with day/date complications. Unlike all watches in this list, you don’t get a chronograph option with this one.

Christopher Ward is a relatively new British watch brand. It was only in 2005 when they launched their first watch. This brand aims to offer Swiss watch quality at a fractional price.
The C7 Rapide Chronograph is a good testament to this. Before Omalogato or Autodromo came along, this was the watch that spoke directly to the motorsport enthusiasts. This chronograph gets a Swiss-made Ronda 5021.D Quartz movement.

Straton is a modern Swiss-based watch brand that launched in 2015 with a Kickstarter campaign. This watch brand quickly got love from the fans, thanks to its strong resonance with retro motoring. This does not come as a surprise because the founder of Straton is passionate about classic cars, racing and watches. In fact, his lifestyle fully matches with the brand ethos.
Their first watch, Vintage Driver Chrono laid the foundation for this microbrand. Their latest offering Curve Chrono is also 70s inspired chronograph. Starting from the case design to dial colours, everything about it classy.
It comes in 5 style variation. Powering this watch is a Meca-Quartz Seiko movement. This is a hybrid movement with an accuracy of a quartz watch with sophistication of a mechanical chronograph.

Smart watches are mostly looked down upon by purists. Their main argument is that they lack character. But if you like the functionality of smart watches but still want it to feel good on your wrist, do checkout Huawei GT2 Porsche Design watch.
This watch is constructed using titanium body with ceramic case back, which we racing enthusiasts love. The screen has a Sapphire glass so you know it’s tough as nails.
This is a perfect retro-modern watch for someone who loves motorsport and world war 2 fighter planes. Just looking at the dial you’ll get the ethos of this watch without me telling you.
This is a classic chronograph watch that’s built to perform. The dial markings are big and clear. The watch comes on a hand-stitched leather strap that completes the look.
Seiko has lots of chronograph watches but this particular model is my personal favourite. It has all the elements to be a perfect racing watch.

5) Breathable &durable straps: Motor racing is a high-intensity sport and cockpit of a racing driver can get really hot, especially in summers. A lightweight and breathable strap is ideal for such a situation. In the initial days for racing its was only rally-style leather straps but latter on perforated rubber straps also got popular.
